Following the route of one of South Africa’s most spectacular coastal trails, the Alexandria Trail Run is sure to provide an unforgettable trail running experience to every runner that takes part.

Ordinarily reserved for a maximum of 12 persons at any one time, this is a unique opportunity to be among a select group of people lucky enough to experience running on one of South Africa’s hidden trail treasures.

Set in the Woody Cape section of Addo Elephant National Park, this bucket-list trail run takes you from twisting singletrack through lush dune forests to the vast, windswept sands of the Alexandria dune field.

  • a space blanket
  • a torch/headlamp
  • a windproof outer shell
  • a buff (to protect against flying sand on the dunes)
  • a hydration pack (min. 1.5l) which can be refilled at the water points

Kit check will be done at race registration.

52 Km Recommended Gear

In addition to the required gear, we recommend that all runners carry the following items:

  • sunblock
  • sunglasses (to help protect against glare and flying sand on the dunes)
  • cap
  • basic medical kit
  • strapping

52 Km Race Rules

  • 52 km entrants must be 18 years or older.
  • All 52 km runners must register between 05h00 and 05h50 on race day.
  • Entries for the 52km race are ONLINE ONLY, and close at midnight on Sunday 14th September.
  • There will be NO ON THE DAY ENTRIES for the 52km.
  • Race briefing will take place at 05h55
  • Race starts at 06h00
  • Runners have 12 hours to complete the course, with the final cutoff being at 18h00
  • There will be 4 water points / checkpoints along the route.
  • There is a time cutoff at CP Delta (your last checkpoint) at 16h00. If you don't make this, you will be pulled from the race.
  • Be advised that while this is a spectacularly beautiful trail, it is still quite a challenging route. ALL runners MUST carry a cup, whistle, space blanket, windproof outer shell, buff (to protect against flying sand on the dunes) and a hydration pack (min. 1.5l) which can be refilled at the water points.
  • This is a green race so no litter will be tolerated. Please discard any wrappers/ papers at the checkpoints.
  • NOTE: We support the run clean movement, so no cups will be provided at the water points!
  • The route follows the Alexandria Hiking Trail which is marked, and there will be a sweeper ensuring everyone gets through the course.
  • Prizegiving will be at 14h00
  • Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female runners.

Choose Your Alexandria Trail Adventure

Choose your race option below. Please note that all distances are limited to 50 entries each.

All entries include the SANParks event fee, a R50 donation to the SANParks Honorary Rangers, a finisher drink, a finisher meal and a race medal.

Commemorative tops are optional extras this year for all distances. You can choose to include this with your entry when you enter.

Cancellations, deferrals and substitutions

We know things don’t always pan out as planned. Sometimes life (or a pandemic) just gets in the way. As a result we have the following policies in place:

Any entry cancelled before Aug 31 2025 will get a 75% refund.
Any entry cancelled between Sep 1 & Sep 7 2025 will get a 50% refund.
Any entry cancelled after Sep 7 will forfeit the full entry fee.

Alternatively, instead of cancelling, your entry can also be deferred to 2026.

Any deferrals will incur the price difference between the 2025 and 2026 entry fees, along with a R200 deferral fee.

Substitutions will be allowed up to 7 Sep 2025. All substitutions will incur a R150 substitution fee.

Race Postponement

In the event we have to postpone the race for any reason, all entries will be carried over to the new date.
Should you not be able to make the new date, you will be entitled to receive a 75% refund, or a free deferral to the 2026 race.

Race Village Camping
